Your data is kept in Germany

Nutria runs on our own server in Germany. No advertising, no tracking, no trade in your data. What goes outside is listed here.

What goes outAs of September 2026
  • Servers in Germany. The database, the backend and the fonts on this page are all there. None of it runs in someone else's cloud.
  • Recipe suggestion. Ask for one and your pantry list goes to the language model of Anthropic in the USA. Only then. And only the list.
  • Barcode scan. If we do not know the barcode, your device asks Open Food Facts in France, a non-profit project. What travels is the number and the IP address of your device. The product picture comes from there too.
  • Reminders. In the browser the message is encrypted and your browser's push service cannot read it. In the iPhone and Android apps it travels through Expo in the USA and sits there in the clear, with up to three names from your pantry.
  • Updates. On start the apps ask Expo in the USA for a newer version. Your IP address and technical details about device and app version go along, your pantry data does not.
  • What you eat stays yours. Nobody can buy a place in your recipe suggestions. Your pantry list is not for sale.
